“Experiencing The Best of Human Kindness to Finding Your Hearts Content”

With our celebrated story telling tradition, the hit Broadway musical story of “Come From Away” is revealed as you journey from St. John’s to Gander. Magnificent vistas highlight dramatic scenery of land and sea where you will discover seafaring traditions, colourful architecture, and inspired cuisine all served up by awe inspiring folk ready to share a warm welcome and a tale or two, unlike anywhere else on the planet.

The first to welcome  a new day in North America we’ll take you “around the bay,” Conception Bay, to Cupids, the first English colony in Canada (1610), and to the home of the famous Arctic explorer Captain Bob Bartlett in Brigus. Then it’s off to Heart’s Content  in Trinity Bay where you will be amazed to see the behind the scenes technology of 1866 that created the first successful trans-Atlantic telegraph cable connecting  North America to Europe thus catapulting  communications worldwide. Learn of the age-old family traditions and craftsmanship of boat building in Winterton.

In 1497 Cape Bonavista was changed forever upon the arrival of explorer John Cabot in 1497 – here you’ll learn of social, industrial, commercial and cultural impacts that shaped the economic backbone of our province.  In charming Trinity you’ll learn about the Trinity Pageant and the many theatrical productions presented by Rising Tide Theatre, as well as the steeped history of this quaint village best explored on foot.

Gander is home to Gander International Airport, the Crossroads of the World.  On September 11th, 2001 hundreds of flights were diverted when American airspace was shutdown.  Here they accommodated 38 international planes and almost 7,000 newly stranded passengers. The Tony award winning Broadway musical “Come From Away” tells this story.  Today we gain an insiders perspective as we tour Gander to see some of the sites and meet the locals who inspired the “Come From Away “story.   You’ll quickly embrace the message of how “The best of human kindness reveals the best in all of us.”
